Outsourcing has received "mixed" reviews. There are bright promises for improvements before the contract gets signed. But a significant fraction of outsourcing deals, at least in IT, get into trouble within five years. There are multiple reasons why this is the case. The vendor promised what it was unable to deliver. The vendor delivered, but it turned out that this was not really what the client needed. Some of the problems can be traced to using a waterfall approach.
